Christmas cheer at the Launceston General Hospital

December 12

While many of us will enjoy some time off over the festive season, we know Christmas will be one of the busiest times of the year for our dedicated health staff.

But that doesn’t mean a little bit (or a lot) of Christmas cheer can’t come to the hospital.

Competition for the annual LGH Christmas Cup is now in full swing, with each ward and department encouraged to decorate their workspace with some festive fun.

The theme for this year’s Christmas Cup is a ‘traditional Christmas’, with extra points awarded for recycling and re-using materials.

For the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, it’s been a family affair, with staff asked to bring along their children/grandchildren/nieces/nephews and fur babies artwork for display in the waiting area.

They have also been painting recycled cardboard gingerbread men for the ICU corridor and collecting medicine, dialysis bag and milk container lids to make decorations.

This inspiring level of creativity (and more) can be found throughout the hospital. Check out our gallery for some of the highlights below.

The winner will be judged by the hospital's dedicated team of volunteers next week.

With the IOC claiming the honours last year, competition will be fierce for the glory of holding the Cup throughout 2024.
